Choosing the Right Tattoo Style For You
Choosing a tattoo style isn’t just about what looks good online — it’s about what works for your idea, your placement and how you want the tattoo to feel long term.
I specialise in three very different disciplines: high contrast realism, fine line and anime tattoos. Each creates a completely different visual impact on the skin.
If You’re Drawn to Bold, Detailed Artwork
High contrast realism tattoos are strong, structured and highly detailed. They’re ideal if you want something that feels powerful and three-dimensional — whether that’s wildlife, portrait work or nature-inspired designs.
Realism requires space and commitment, but when done properly it creates a statement piece that holds its depth over time.
If You Prefer Something Subtle and Delicate
Fine line tattoos are lighter, more minimal and often more understated. They’re perfect for script, ornamental designs, small symbolic pieces or elegant details that sit softly on the skin.
Fine line work focuses on precision and simplicity rather than heavy contrast. If you like clean, minimal aesthetics, this style may suit you best.
If You Want Character-Driven, Expressive Artwork
Anime tattoos sit somewhere between bold illustration and graphic design. Strong linework, dynamic poses and carefully placed shading create tattoos that feel energetic and recognisable.
Most of my anime work is black and grey, sometimes with subtle colour accents to highlight key details. If you love character art and want something expressive but still structured for longevity, anime is a great choice.
Not Sure Which Style Fits Your Idea?
That’s completely normal.
Sometimes the concept determines the style — for example, a realistic lion works best in realism, while a symbolic flower might suit fine line. Other times it comes down to how bold you want the finished tattoo to look.
During your consultation in Bristol, we’ll talk through:
Placement and scale
Level of detail
Long-term ageing
Overall visual impact
The goal isn’t just to choose a style — it’s to choose the right approach for your skin and your idea.
Tattoo Consultations in Bristol
All tattoos are created from my Bristol studio and are completed by appointment only
Most consultations are handled via message initially. I actually prefer discussing ideas this way, as it allows me to have all of your references, notes and placement details clearly in front of me while designing. It keeps the process organised and ensures nothing gets missed.
For more complex projects — such as large-scale pieces, cover-ups or detailed realism work — an in-person consultation may be arranged if needed.
During the consultation process, we’ll cover:
• Your idea and reference material
• Placement and body flow
• Scale and level of detail
• Which style suits the concept best
• Session structure and pricing
Clients travel from across Bristol and the wider South West for custom realism, fine line and anime tattoos. Whether we plan everything digitally or in person, the goal is the same — to create a tattoo that’s thoughtfully designed and built to last.
All bookings are made by enquiry so each project receives the time and attention it deserves.
